A Job Writing For Pro Football News Could Be Rewarding, Entertaining

Posted by Chris on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

A person wanting a job with Pro Football News may not necessarily have to have a journalism background in order to write for this publication.  A person could have an understanding of football and perhaps a communications degree or an English degree, which would work well for them at such a publication.

The ability to gain access to and interview players such as Julius Peppers and find out what is going on in their professional careers is a must for this type of job.  Currently Peppers is considering leaving the Carolina Panthers for greener pastures and that doesn’t mean a greener playing field, it means more money.

Julius Peppers will walk on February 26, two weeks after national signing day, if the Panthers don’t apply a franchise tag to him. Many sports writers have declared the Pro Bowl the last time anyone might see Julius Peppers in the Carolina Panthers blue colors because he is looking for a new team to call home.  Through his agent, Peppers has made it clear he does not want to spend any more time with the team that drafted him in 2002.

Tidbits of information about their favorite player that people usually don’t know that is interesting or unusual would be perfect for a human interest article about the player.  For example, Julius Peppers, a 6′7, 285 pound man played in the NCAA Men’s Final Four basketball tournament as well as the NFL’s Super Bowl.  He is only the second man to ever accomplish this, first was Donovan McNabb.  Interesting information like this help keep the reader from putting the article down; other information could be from their past like how they were as kids. Did they pick up the football at an early age or were they interested in other things in football just fell into their lap?

A writer must be detail orientated as well as respect deadlines.  There must also be respect for what a person says because what goes in between the quote marks must be exactly what the person says and not what you think the person says.
