Cookie Cutters Make Kids Party Fun for All

Posted by Kolleen on Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Children of nearly all ages love to help plan their birthday parties, everything from decorating the living room with balloons and streamers to making the cake or cupcakes, but what would make their birthday extra special would be a unique cookie party with cookie cutters of all different shapes, characters and sizes.

With a cookie birthday party, a parent could either make the cookies in advance – with the child’s help or, have a cookie themed party in which all the children make their own little set of cookies. The second party idea would take a little more planning on the parent’s part and they might need to enlist the help of other parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends because of the large scale cookie making. And as party favors, each child could pick their favorite cookie cutter to bring home so they could make that particular cookie again and again with their mom or dad.

To have a cookie themed party, it would be a good idea to purchase several different cookie cutter sets so that each child has a variety of cookie cutters to choose from and make their half dozen or dozen cookies. It might be best if the dough were already made and the children were only allowed to roll it out and press out the cookies with the cookie cutters to save time and messes. Also, once the cookies have been cut out and placed on the cookie sheets – which may need to be borrowed from a friend or family member – the children could go outside to play or play other kitchen style games while the adults handle the baking part of the cookie making.

Once the cookies have been baked and cooled, it’s nice to allow the children to decorate them with different colored icing or food coloring used as‘paint’ with clean paint brushes. Mixing food colors to make different ‘paints’ to color a cookie that was made with a Batman cookie cutter would be a novel idea for any little boy or girl – who wouldn’t love to paint cookies?

Besides being a fun idea for entertaining the children at the party, the cookies would be more economical than purchasing a large sheet cake or several dozen cupcakes.
