Green Hotel Jobs Great For Resume, Great for the Environment
Obtaining a job with green hotels could be fun and at the same time helpful to the environment. There are many positions in a green hotel one might be qualified for depending on experience and if you have or need a bachelor’s degree.
Working at the front desk greeting customers and placing them in the correct rooms is not a difficult task; however in addition to these duties one might have to balance or audit books. Calling customers in the morning for wake-up calls is another part of the job in addition to arranging for hybrid rental cars for customers and giving directions to the most must-see attractions in town.
Most green hotels are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week so there are various shifts available. This would be an ideal job for a student in college because on slow occasions one might be able to do their homework.
There is always a laundry room in a hotel. In a green hotel, this laundry room is probably set up a little differently than in regular hotels. A green hotel would use different laundry soap and might hang their sheets out to dry instead of using the dryer to save electricity. Additionally, many green hotels ask their customers to leave a card on their bed for the maid servants if they do not wish to have the sheets changed every night in order to save water, soap and energy. Some hotels do laundry for their customers who stay more than a couple of nights.
Maid service is another part of the hotel employment team. Every day they clean rooms by vacuuming, dusting, making the beds, cleaning the bathrooms thoroughly, washing the windows and making sure the television and heaters or air conditioners work properly.
If something does not work in a hotel, such as a television, heater or air conditioner, then a person from the maintenance crew is called to fix the item. Maintenance and maid services are two separate departments within the hotel.
Many hotels have agreements with local Dominos Pizza restaurants to deliver pizzas to their patrons, especially if they do not have a restaurant within the hotel. However, if the hotel does have a restaurant on the premises, they will need cooks, dishwashers, wait staff and hostesses. Depending on what type of restaurant it is, they may need a bartender.
Some green hotels even offer babysitting services on the premises depending on their location because adults like to spend an evening alone without their children; since they are on vacation, finding reliable babysitting services is hard to do. Therefore, it is greatly appreciated when a hotel provides these types of services.
There are many jobs available for individuals at a green hotel in order to help save the environment while making a decent wage.
