Kitchen Contracting Jobs More Abundant Since the Economy Turned South
Many people are trying to reinvent themselves in this downward economy so they have gone back to school to learn new skills such as kitchen remodeling because the new housing market is not doing so well. People are remodeling instead of purchasing new homes.
There are many different jobs available for kitchen contractors, some that require a technical degree while others only require experience.
A kitchen contractor needs to be able to use power tools and precisely measure and cut various pieces of custom tile, wood paneling, drywall, and kitchen cabinetry and granite kitchen countertops. Mathematical skills are a must if one is to become a kitchen contractor because all the pieces need to fit together precisely and according to an engineers or architects drawing.
Before a kitchen contractor or kitchen remodeler is able to go to work on the kitchen there needs to be a plan in place for where everything is to go, such as where the refrigerator is going to be placed as opposed to where the stove and kitchen sink will be placed. A kitchen designer is the first person to take on the job of remodeling a kitchen because there needs to be plans for everything. The people that draw the plans for the kitchen remodeling are sometimes known as drafters who draft plans. They go to a special drafting school in order to learn how to create the plans that everyone follows to create the kitchen a customer wants.
Once there are plans in place, a kitchen contractor needs to be able to read them, this might come with experience; however there are technical schools that teach kitchen contractors how to reap drafting plans and engineering blueprints to make sure everything is placed exactly where it should be and that the measurements are exact. There are technical schools where kitchen contractors can learn everything from welding to the proper use of power saws and how to fix drywall and everything in between.
There are also many office jobs a kitchen contractor needs completed because people call the office to schedule appointments for estimates or to schedule to have their job completed. An estimator is also a position that would need to be filled in a new kitchen contractor company. An estimator would go to the customer’s house and look at the kitchen, measure the kitchen and talk with the owners to decide what could be done and see what they would like done to their kitchen and then tell the customers what could not be done in terms of where a load bearing wall is or something that is just impossible to perform.
