Pediatric DC Dentist Helps put Smile on Children’s Faces
A Washington DC sedation dentist might also be a pediatric dental specialist and only see small children at their practice. Many pediatric dentists decorate their offices in bright, colorful themes and equip their office with the latest in video games, television programs, and movies in order to help make the visit as painless and as fun as possible.
Children learn at an early age what to be frightened of and if their mom or dad is terrified of the dentist, chances are, they will have a child who is also afraid. It is best for the child to go with a parent or grandparent who is not afraid of the dentist because children, young ones especially, pick up on their parent’s fears and this will only serve to scare the child. There are those children who show no fear and it doesn’t matter if their parents are afraid of the dentist, they are fearless about the dentist and everything in life. Research has showed that these types of children – those who show no fear of anything – will grow up to be police officers, firemen and women or racecar drivers because they are fearless and they love the adrenaline rush these types of jobs offer them.
Pediatric DC dentists will make sure their offices are inviting to children and not at all ‘clinical’ or steel looking which often translates into scariness for a lot of children. They have their dental staff wear brightly colored clothing or scrubs with the latest cartoon characters on them. Most dentists agree that mom or dad should be left out in the waiting room, even with the small toddlers, when it comes time for the dentist to work on children. This is because they do not want or need a parent asking if the child is okay ever few minutes which only serves to remind the child where they are and what is happening.
Although it may be a little difficult at first, communication between a DC dentist and a patient can be accomplished. Most dentists have had years of experience deciphering what a patient is saying while they have their mouth open and a lot of time children want to talk during a dental procedure.
